Handling of version history

Rather then litter the article with what was added in each version, the main article should simple cover the latest version. Details about when things where added can be put in a 'Changes' section at the bottom. Thecoshman (talk) 18:06, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Mun or Mün?

What is the correct spelling of the nearest neighbour of Kerbal?

People regularly refer to it as Mün (pronounced as moon) but spell it as Mun (which has an uh sound.)

I understand that most UK and USA keyboards dont have the capabilities to type ä, ë, ï, ö, ü or ÿ, but i personally would have no problem correcting this, but i would need to know how to spell it.

My preferance is for Mün because it is pronounced in a way that gives us the connection to it that we have with our own moon.

From what I can tell, all 'in game' content refers to it as 'Mun'. In English, that 'u' would have a harsh sound, but I believe it is supposed to be read as 'Moon'. I believe the use of the accent is a habit some people have picked up to help stress way it is supposed to be said. I think we would need to get some one from squad to help clarify this. Thecoshman (talk) 07:56, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

I personally think it's pronounced as muhn and spelled Mün. In German language you got the Umlaut: ä, ë, ö and ü. They are pronounced different. The normal u is pronounced oo as in moon while ü is pronounced uh. When in the map view you see a "focus" and if the focussed object has a ü in it's name it has a totally different font. The KSP font doesn't support umlauts while the textures don't care (as seen in the title screen). If ü was supported I'm sure it would be spelled as the Mün. Now there are two things about your comment. First the last comment is almost 7 months old and on Talk:Mün there is already a new discussion about this. On the other hand I don't see a reason why they should have used Mün instead of Mun. On an American/British (and I guess Mexican) keyboard there is no direct key to input this letter and it isn't in the English or Spanish alphabet. Maybe they are inspired by the metal umlauts but they don't change the pronunciation (only how the letter is written). Now in the trivia is this:
However, several of the game's developers have been heard referring to it as Mun[…]

Mun → Trivia

Unfortunately there isn't any citation so it isn't possible to verify if it is simply because the font doesn't support it or because some user think it should be Mün. — xZise [talk] 17:23, 29 April 2013 (CDT)
Well, the fact that there isn't a direct key to ü doesn't mean it's not impossible to use an ü. It's just " and then u, what's so hard about that?MmPMSFmM (talk) 09:13, 1 May 2013 (CDT)
I definately think Mün should forward to Mun, regardless. More notably there is no citation on which pronunciation of "ü" is intended to be used. However, I suspecting the intent is to place it as somewhere between "uh" and "oo." This is likely to emphasize that it is a Spanish U sound. video of spanish vowels --Ruedii (talk) 23:01, 28 October 2013 (CDT)
Actually it does redirect and I would say nobody want to change it, as both spellings are very common. — xZise [talk] 04:38, 29 October 2013 (CDT)
Below is the discussion from Talk:Mün

I do not agree with renaming the Mun to "Mün" as done by User:Eduardog3000. The moon is still labeled "Mun" in game and unless that changes, I do not see a need to have it labeled Mün ingame. I am aware there is confusion regarding this, which was strengthened by the new Title screen with the "Mün or bust" scene, but unless the "ü" makes it ingame, I suggest keeping "Mun" as the Wiki definition for now. --Senshi (talk) 09:23, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

I completely agree, this is just plain inaccurate. --Craigmt1 (talk) 16:39, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
I changed the term Mün to Mun. However, the name of the page is still Mün; I can't seem to find the "move page" tab/button anywhere. Does a mod/admin need to do this? --Tofuturkey (talk) 15:51, 29 April 2013 (CDT)
For the moment I changed the templates back to Mün, so the page still works. Now technically I could move these pages, but I'm uncertain if this would work in long term. Until mid December 2012 it was still Mun and there is even a discussion about the same “problem”. Personally I don't favour any spelling (although as a German it is kind of a joy to type the ü in an English wiki ;) ) — xZise [talk] 17:11, 29 April 2013 (CDT)
Sorry about that, didn't realize I renamed that one. Still trying to learn about editing wiki's. Anyhow, hope this at least brings this topic to the table. --Tofuturkey (talk) 17:24, 29 April 2013 (CDT)
You are welcome ;) I didn't “fixed” it right away, because I wasn't sure what is the correct thing to do. I added the discussion from the other talk page and will add a box to this discussion at the article top. — xZise [talk] 10:35, 30 April 2013 (CDT)
If someone needs a hand with moving things, drop me an email - I am rather good at wikis and might be able to help. Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 17:31, 7 May 2013 (CDT)

add geosync orbit???

a geosynchronous orbit around the Mün is not possible (because it is tidally locked, sort of). That part is clear. But should we add geosync orbits to the planet box???

I think we should as it is a physical characteristic of the planet. In orbital informations (like the ones for the planets) we could then say it lies outside the sphere of influence. Also, i put geosync orbit and sphere of influence together precisely for this reason.

So, should it be included into the planetbox? I think so.--Azivegu (talk) 17:37, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

GSO

Hey guys, can someone fix the geostationary orbit? I got no idea what's wrong with the code there, and any searches I did for a straight-out-number redirect to here. --Stelith61 (talk) 12:31, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Fixed. It seems like the Template:Sigfigs is incompatible to the new version of Template:OrbitAltitude --Crush (talk) 07:43, 7 April 2013 (CDT)

Were the terrain changes completely reverted in 0.20.1?

If so, should we delete the 0.20 Terrain overhaul?

About changes in 0.21

I fixed the highest point to note which was the highest which I knew - but it's even higher, because my test was done by crashing onto Mun's surface (which usually happens on mountain slopes, instead of mountain peaks). I also temporary removed information about typical equatorial touchdown altitude, because the outdated ones would lead to a series of catastrophes. It should be reverted with proper data after ISA Map stat will be updated and somebody who use mods will get his hands on it (I guess I can try to do it too, I like mods which doesn't ruin game balance and aestetics).

Where "...or bust" comes from

I'm not sure where the term "or bust" come from, but it wasn't KurtJmac

--LittleBigKid2000 (talk) 16:51, 18 August 2013 (CDT)

I'm not sure of the actual etymology, but it's been popular atleast since the old west, it generally means "I'll get there or die trying." -Cpthunt (talk) 01:09, 23 March 2014 (CDT)

Surface gravity

Surface gravity as fraction of kerbin (like on wikipedia, where it is in Earths) would be helpful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Trvtannenberg (talkcontribs)

Here you go:
The gravitational pull the surface is 1.63 m/s², approximately 1/6 and 8.18 m/s² lower than that of Kerbin and about the surface gravity of Earth's Moon (1.624 m/s²).

Pole terrain

I just tried to land at the north pole, and aborted just in time after finding not one single flat space for two minutes, and, in fact, not one single slope < 60 degrees...

Shouldn't there be at least a short mentioning of the extreme nature of the poles in this article?

question, re: Armstrong Memorial

Can anyone verify for me if it's still there? I put down a lander at the coordinates of Tranquility Base and couldn't find it.-Cpthunt (talk) 01:11, 23 March 2014 (CDT)
