The EVA Jetpack is an inventory item that lets Kerbals use the jetpack while on EVA. As of 1.11, the EVA Jetpack must be equipped in order to jetpack while in EVA.

Product description

The EVA jetpack has been a workhorse of kerbal astronauts for decades. It has been so useful that some kerbals have taken to wearing them inside the complex, back home, and even in their showers.

It gives unparalleled mobility in space and low gravity environments but can be tricky to master. Incidences of injury while using one have dropped to nearly 10% after sufficient training.

Usage

The EVA Jetpack contains 5 units of EVA propellant. A Kerbal wearing a jetpack has approximately 600 m/s of delta-V.

EVA Fuel Cylinders can be used to carry more monopropellant.

Controls

Controls are relative to where the Kerbal is facing. W and S will apply a forward/backward force, A and D will push the Kerbal to the left or right, Q and E will spin the Kerbal and Shift and Left Control will accelerate up or down. Another important thing to keep in mind is that while the map is active, the navball will show where the Kerbal facing. However, while the map isn't active, the navball will show where the camera is facing.

Trivia

  • When a Kerbonaut boards a vessel, the EVA propellant refills to max capacity without draining any resources from the vessel
  • Due to Gilly's low gravity, it's possible to orbit it using only a jetpack.
  • On the surface of Duna, a Kerbal is too heavy for a jetpack to lift off the ground, this can be solved by jumping off the ground
