The Kerbal Space Program Campaigns

Welcome to the first campaign in a semi-official community-developed Kerbal Space Program. We hope you enjoy it. Feel free to modify any campaign with ideas of your own.

Rules:

  1. Spaceflight is expensive, and technology progressive. Challenge yourself to build the simplest and cheapest launch systems and spacecraft to accomplish the mission.
  2. SAS modules don't exist until the middle of the Kerbinai Program, so don't use them until then (yes hotshot, you will need to fly using your onboard Control Module SAS only).
  3. If an advanced part exists, don't use it if an alternative exists and you can still accomplish your mission.

Introduction

Several thousand years ago, the Kerbese invented solid fuel rockets for their firework displays. Later, the Kerbins invented the K2 rocket capable of landing a relatively unguided liquid fuel rocket on an island across the side of the ocean, terrorizing the local fauna. Robert Kerbin then invented the liquid fueled rocket. Help each group maintain their progress toward the goal of a liquid fueled two stage rocket capable of reaching 70,000m, the beginning of space.

This campaign is designed to present you with a mission manifest that will allow you to accomplish the final goal of reliably launching an unmanned rocket on a controlled suborbital trajectory of your choosing.

Specifications

  • Length: 2 hours
  • Difficulty: As easy as hitting a spacebar, and then some.
  • Skills needed: Spectator sporting skills
  • For version: Every version (tested on 0.20.2)

Missions

Solid Fuel Rocketry

  • Launch RT-10 Solid Fuel Booster Rocket Part I
  1. Must be unmanned
  2. Must have nosecone.
  • Launch RT-10 Solid Fuel Booster Rocket Part II
  1. Must be unmanned
  2. Must have nosecone.
  3. Must static fire for 2 seconds or more before liftoff.
  • Launch Two-Stage Solid Fuel Rocket
  1. Must be unmanned

Liquid Fuel Rocketry

  • Launch LVT-30 Liquid Fuel Rocket Eastwards
  1. Must be unmanned.
  2. Must have nosecone or parachute.
  3. Land that thing in the ocean lest you worry the Kerbiets.
  • Launch Two-Stage LVT-30 Liquid Fuel Rocket and Maintain 45 degrees Eastwards after 10,000m

  2. Must have nosecone or parachute.
  3. After your rocket goes above 70,000m you will reach space at this point and the music will play celebrating your accomplishment.

Finishing word

After you get your second stage liquid fuel rocket up past 70km, you're well on your way to becoming the next Robert Kerbin and igniting the Space Race.
