The PPD-10 Hitchhiker Storage Container (also HSC) is a container and can be manned with 4 Kerbals.

Usage

It is empty at the beginning of a flight and needed to be manned manually. To man the container other Kerbals need to be transferred from command pods with an EVA. When Kerbals are in a storage container, their portraits will not show up in the staging view. But they leave the storage container out by left-clicking the door of the container and clicking on the EVA buttons next to their names.

The main uses of storage containers are:

  • Crew quarters aboard space stations
  • Rescuing stranded Kerbonauts and bringing them home
Possible interior

Interior

The HSC hasn't any interior view and doesn't allow to go IVA with a Kerbal. The KSP Weekly game development report from March 19th 2013 included a picture which is likely to be the interior of the Hitchhiker Storage Container in a future version. The "hatches" on the ceiling and floor correspond to the circles seen on the container's exterior, and the viewing portholes appear exactly the same (a circular glass pane with a square around it"

Description

The HSC was an invention of necessity - how do we store 4 Kerbals on-orbit without any real provisions for return? Who needed this remains a mystery, as do his motives
