This article is about the technology tree node. For the main page, see Main Page.

Start is the first node in the technology tree, and the only stage 1 node on the tree. It is the node the player starts with, and includes seven basic parts, most of which are essential to play the game. This node doesn't need to be developed.

Available Research

There is only one tech node that directly requires this one:

Parts

The Command Pod Mk1 is the only essential part required to start the game. This is because the second tech tree node, Basic Rocketry, only costs 5 Science, and that can easily be supplied by making Crew Reports, EVA Reports and collecting Surface Samples from within the Kerbal Space Center. However, if the player wants to gain more Science, using these starter parts the player can make a sub-orbital rocket and parachute safely down, or explosive decoupling to reach orbit and gain more science from space, using the Communotron 16 to transmit data if needed.
