Surface Features

Introduced in the Breaking Ground expansion, surface features are similar to terrain scatter. Terrain scatter tends to be more prolific and can make it difficult to identify surface features. The largest difference is surface features can be interacted with, while terrain scatter allows objects to pass right through.

Description

Bill Kerman standing in front of a feature on Minmus

In the Breaking Ground DLC, several new kinds of surface feature were added. These are to a much higher resolution than terrain and are also able to be interacted with. Kerbals can pick up samples of the features, and they can be scanned with the 3 different types of scanning arm.

Examples

There are several different types of surface feature, including rocks (found on most planets and moons), and planet-specific features such as the Vall cryovolcanoes or the Wrinkle Ridges on Moho.
