The Joolians Campaigns Kerbol 2: The Kerbols

KSC was feeling very proud of itself for their myriad of accomplishments. However government officials had increased their complaints of KSC costing too much. The government of Kerbin wants KSC to cut its budget by over half. While KSCs head was trying to explain that they KSC couldn't possibly run on such a small budget, a plucky intern suggested that KSP focus on reusable Spacecraft similar to Intrepid, which could spend years self contained traveling across the solar system. This intern was promptly fired and his Idea was stolen, and that is how the Hermes Program was born.

Specifications

  • Length: 4-6 hours
  • Difficulty: 6-10 (Proficient)
  • Skills
  1. Expert Navigation via Maneuvering Nodes
  2. Advanced Orbiting
  3. Expert Vessel Design
  4. Expert understanding of interplanetary launch windows (phase angles)
  5. Expert understanding of landers.
  • Version: Every Version

Missions

  • You must finish before KSPs budget is slashed either keep track of time, or get Kerbal alarm clock, you have ten years to Complete Hermes III. (once Hermes III is finished, you can stop the timer during final tests)

Hermes I

  • Hermes I is an unmanned designed to test the concept of infinite use ships (It must be able to land on Moho)
  • Hermes I must contain
  1. 2 Probodobodyne HECS 2
  2. Drills
  3. Processing plant (to refuel during flight)
  4. Batteries (must be able to run Plant and drill through any planets night)
  5. Solar panels/ RTGs (must be able to charge while refueling)
  6. A dish communicator
  7. Enough Delta V to take off from Gilly, and land on Moho
  8. Both Surface scanners
  9. (recommended it have an efficient nuclear engine for planetary transit, and Liq/Oxy engines for landing)
  • To test Hermes I, launch it to orbit using a booster stage.
  • Travel to Eve using as little Delta V as possible.
  • Land on Gilly
  • Refuel
  • Wait for a launch window to Moho.
  • Travel to Moho
  • Refuel

Hermes II

  • Hermes II is a small manned test of a Hermes system (It must be able to land on Moho)
  • Hermes II should contain
  1. All parts as Hermes I, accept only 1 Probodobodyne HECS 2
  2. Space for 3 Kerbals
  3. Heat shield to renter atmosphere after test.
  4. (recommended it have an efficient nuclear engine for planetary transit, and Liq/Oxy engines for landing)
  • you have two options, you may test it by flying between planets to Eelo, or between planets to Moho. (chose based on which launch windows are better set up)
  • If you travel to Moho, land next to Hermes I
  • Return to Kerbin and renter capsule.

Hermes III

  • Hermes III is the final Hermes ship
  • Hermes III must contain
  1. 1 Probodobodyne HECS 2
  2. Drills
  3. Processing plant (to refuel during flight)
  4. Batteries (must be able to run Plant and drill through any planets night)
  5. Solar panels/ RTGs (must be able to charge while refueling)
  6. A dish communicator
  7. Enough Delta V to take off from Gilly, and land on Moho
  8. Both Surface scanners.
  9. Space for 30 Kerbals
  10. One Ring of containers (plants must grow in gravity, this is how you feed your kerbals)
  11. (recommended it have an efficient nuclear engine for planetary transit, and Liq/Oxy engines for landing (It must be able to land on Moho))
  12. All scientific instruments in game
  13. Docking ports
  14. The ability to carry 30 Ton cargo extra (Note: when landing to refuel habitation and cargo sections may stay in orbit)
  15. SAS for maneuvering (obviously!)

Unmanned Test

  • Launch Hermes III, or assemble it in space
  • Travel to Moho (using planet hopping)
  • Travel back to Kerbin)

Manned Test

  • Load Hermes III with 5 Kerbals
  • Fly to Moho
  • Fly back
  • Return Kerbals to surface.

Ultimate Test

  • Load 10 Kerbals on Hermes III
  • Fly to every planet/moon Hermes III can land on (anything smaller than Moho)
