An environmental sensor is a type of part implemented in version 0.18 and utilized in the science system implemented in version 0.22. Currently seven sensors are available - four which measure specific aspects of environmental conditions, two for materials science, and one for atmospheric analysis. All of them can be found under the Science tab of the part list.
Environmental sensors can only be used to earn science in career and science modes; using them in the sandbox will only result in the game displaying a message to that effect.
