There are two kind of spam with different approaches:
- Newly created pages
- Editing an existing article
After taking care of spam, please warn the spammer at their user talk page, or report them to a sysop if needed.

Identifying spam
Spam pages or edits appear in the following forms:
- Nonsense (duh!)
- Spamming links to external websites
- Advertising or promoting
Newly created pages
When a spam page is newly created the best way to handle it, is to replace the complete text with {{Delete|Spam}}
. Replacing the complete text is important to prevent search bots to index the page's content. And if it wasn't spam, the previous status is still available in the page history.
Hopefully an sysop will delete the page and block the user.
Editing an existing article
To fight spam in existing articles simply undo the changes. In the page history there is an undo link after each edit which redirects to the editor with the page prior to this edit. Adding a short notice in the summary and clicking Save page removes the spam entry. Unfortunately this doesn't remove the spam entirely, as both edits – the spam and the revert – are visible in the page history, but at least the page itself is then spam free. This is also completely possible without being a sysop.
Warning the spammer
Spammers should be warned with the appropriate template.
Remember to sign your warning with ~~~~
.
Use vandalism warning templates {{vandal1|article}}
and {{vandal2|article}}
