Image format
How is it that this article goes into so much detail about how to resize an image, yet neglects to mention what file format the flag should be exported into? Isn't that very critical information? SD Ecliptica (talk) 21:15, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- Please feel free to edit it to clarify existing information, or add something you feel is missing. Don't worry about making it perfect, just try to make your edit(s) an overall improvement. I don't know for certain what image formats are supported, without checking, but I'd guess probably PNGs and JPEGs. PNG is probably the better choice for artificial images (i.e. non-photographs), and JPEG for things which are closer to real world photographs (JPEG is specifically designed for that usage, and has negative characteristics which make it a poor choice for artificial images). A quick check of GameData/Squad/Flags tells me that all the stock flags are one of two formats:
- PNG image data, 256 x 160, 8-bit/color RGB, non-interlaced
- PNG image data, 256 x 160, 8-bit/color RGBA, non-interlaced
- So, those are probably the "safe" choices. What I don't know is the full range of supported formats beyond those (if any). Higher resolution than 256x160 is mostly just a waste of texture memory.
