This tutorial will show you how to launch, land and set up a base on any of the planets or moons. • Length: More than 30 minutes
  • Difficulty: Advanced
  • For version: 0.19.1

Launching, Orbiting and Maneuvering

Launch the rocket like you usually do. After burning all the fuel in the large fuel tanks, release them and orbit Kerbin using the first pair of small fuel tanks. Drop the first pair of small fuel tanks when all fuel is burned. Make a maneuver on the map that will reach the orbit and inclination of the your target planet or moon and follow that maneuver using the second pair of small fuel tanks. After reaching a rendezvous point with the target planet or moon, drop the second pair of small fuel tanks and continue to the next step.

Landing

Make a maneuver that lowers the periapsis around the target and use the third pair of small fuel tanks to follow that maneuver. The periapsis should be less than about 20 000 m above the planet or moon. Tilt vertically and deploy the landing gear to ensure a safe landing on the planet or moon. Drop the third pair of small fuel tanks even if there is fuel left to prevent the debris from surviving the fall you from accidentally landing on it. Use the four small fuel tanks to land safely on the surface. Launch the four small fuel tanks by releasing them while the throttle is on maximum power to make it leave the base and crash down at a safe distance onto the surface.

Setup

Rename the Mk2 Lander-can and choose "Base". Toggle the OX-4 Photovoltaic Panels, Illuminator Mk2, Telus-LV Bay Mobility Enhancer and the Communotron 88-88. You can also use the DEMV Mk 5 to explore the planet or moon. Enjoy your new base.
