Something needs to be done about this, I look in the "recent changes" and there is more spam than actual content! 12:39 UTC, 25 March 2013 by User:Stikfigz xD
- Now this depends when you look. Sure there are sometimes spikes (especially about 18 hrs ago) but I don't know what there could be done? One Problem is that there are some users (like Ingramo or even better Ksys1977 or a very stubborn specimen Wingramo) did multiple edits but some of them after a long period. So one way to minimize spam would be to block users more quickly. And you have to note, that spam entries appear two times or even three times as much as normal edits, as there are up to three actions per article: Creating, Marking and Deleting —XZise (talk) 09:30, 25 March 2013 (CDT)
- Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it. Better captchas don't work - most standard captchas can be solved automatically by the spammers. And when they can't, they can still outsource captcha-solving to chinese sweat shops (yes, that's true - there are people who make a living with solving captchas for spammers. And it's ridiculously cheap - just a dollar can buy you 1000 captchas). On another wiki which I frequent we had to deactivate account creation and now unlock accounts manually. This solved the spam problem, but unfortunately it's a very high entry barrier for new users. --Crush (talk) 12:48, 25 March 2013 (CDT)
