Stupidity is one of the only three individual traits kerbonauts have other than a name. In the game file "persistent.sfs" it is a scalar value with the key "dumb = ".

Courage and the hidden "badS" (badass) flag work along with Stupidity to determine how a kerbonaut reacts to variously lethal flight conditions. These reactions range from 'happy' to 'inconsolable horror', displayed by facial expressions and gestures typically seen in IVA cams.

Greater degrees of Stupidity tend to inhibit both emotions, tending toward neutral expressions and relatively calm movements. Kerbals with less stupidity tend to be terrified when trajectories are bad, and in general, which perhaps they ought to be.
