"Despite being 'XL', the parachute offers no extra drag, whether it is semi-deployed or fully deployed, the only difference is that it's bigger." I'm not sure about this, my understanding is that drag in KSP is calculated by multiplying the part's mass by it's drag constant. This parachute seems to have the same drag constant as the standard model but three times the mass.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Plugwash (talk • contribs)
- Based on the final stable descent rate after deployment there seems to be a fairly big difference. With just the Mk16 my craft bottomed out at 24.3 m/s but with the XL it went to 14.4 m/s. --Big Bouffant (talk) 19:54, 8 February 2015 (CST)
- Because the drag coefficients are the same, there shouldn't be any difference when the same mass of parachute is used in otherwise identical craft. eg: between 3x Mk16, 2x Mk2-R, and 1x Mk16-XL. UmbralRaptor (talk) 21:13, 8 February 2015 (CST)
