:: since 0.90 this might not be true anymore. I am having a hard time finding places for a water landing in either Mountain, Highlands or Badlands. I tried adding highlights to the list of biomes like: Northern Sinkhole , but this caused an error and resulted in the list not showing. I don't have any experience with this, but I think it has something to do with it being within template for Biome Lists. Idk why we use a template, or how I would access the template to allow this change, maybe requiring specifying the color along with the name. Could I just change these to regular bullet point lists with a thumbnail next to it? Or would that break things? --Electrollama (talk) 07:12, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

It seems to me that the main reason anyone would be looking at this wiki article in the first place is that they want to know what all the biomes are, and where to find them, and if there are any tricks to getting some extra science points out of them. For example, there is no real way to know that the Badlands even exist from just looking at the world map as a beginner.

Which means the current article is a good start, but needs a few more things? Updated, larger (more detailed) maps? For bodies with water: a short discussion of the importance of getting both a splashed and landed status in each biome? For Kerbin: a listing (behind a "spoiler" cut?) of where to find water in all the land biomes, and how to get landed in the water biome? Each with a detailed latitude and longitude? I think I can make bigger maps myself, and upload them.

I need to verify this, but the Kerbin article says that there is a VAB SouthComplex building/biome -- and it is missing from the list in this article.

Definition of biome

Please don't generate and spread disinformation. Biomes are ecological organizations of living beings and mineral world. A huge crater on the Moon is not a biome - there is no life out there.

That's why we need to explain what biomes are in real life, and what do they represent in Kerbal Space Program, where they have a special meaning. Squad should've never named those regions biomes, but they did, so it's best to set things straight.

Mountain water?

User AironCel says there is surface water in every biome on Kerbin.

My own in-game hunting found water in every biome except Mountains. Scouting a few watery areas that KerbalMaps.com identified as Mountains turned out not to be in Highlands, Shores, or Water in-game (their maps proved imperfect a few times). But I'd love to be wrong; I'd just like to see some verifiable proof!

Location biomes

I should note that the Location Biomes is missing several areas in the Kerbal Space Center, and it lists several areas as "only applicable to mystery goo" and suchlike. Let me state this, it is NOT only applicable to Mystery Goo. The following locations were recorded in my save file for Temperature, Pressure, Gravity, Seismic, Crew Report, EVA Report, Mystery Goo, Surface Sample (sometimes you have to jump against the side of a building to register), Materials Lab, AND Atmospheric sensor. That's like... everything.

It should be noted that I was operating an incredibly tiny rover-like vehicle named the "Pain is Cupcake"; the tiny size of the vehicle may have contributed to the ease with which I caught the boundaries of buildings and whatnot.

All of the sub-biomes at KSC seem to have gone in 1.0, leaving the original one-per-area / one-per-building biomes. Not terribly surprising, as it seemed quite excessive. I've trimmed the list down to just the one-per-area biomes.
--Murph (talk) 04:30, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
I was premature in removing those sub-biomes. It seems that they are not available until the buildings are upgraded. I have restored them to the list (a few days ago, just forgot to follow up on the talk page).
The size of rover doesn't matter, only that it is touching the building or structure in question. I used a fairly large rover carrying a full load of science gear and powered by 12 fuel cells, and didn't have a problem getting them (once I realised that the buildings had to be upgraded). The technique I used was to gently roll into each structure (remember they are destructible, so don't crash hard into them), then hold the rover hard against them with forward power and click the brake on.

maps

can you make maps of biomes for 1.0.2 but in a more visual/colorful style like the first maps in the article (uploaded in 2013), with description for each color? I can't understand anything on those new 0.90 maps. Gendalf (talk) 23:04, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

While I agree that a map like File:KerbinBiomeMap.png is easier to understand because of the better contrast compared to File:Kerbin Biome Map 0.90.0.png I disagree that the legend should be in the image itself. There has been a discussion about that in Project:Tasks#Pictures. Basically the legend can be easier translated when it's in the file description. You also don't need to make the map itself smaller to make space for the legend as you probably can't read it in the thumbnail anyway. — xZise [talk] 09:19, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
It's not like I would look at a thumbnail for exact locations of biomes, obviously I would've enlarged the image first for better resolution and see the legend. Gendalf (talk) 12:19, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Well I don't disagree with a legend in general just not backed into the image. It just wastes space in the thumbnail so maybe a small one would be okay (although that would be then probably on top of the map). — xZise [talk] 16:35, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
