How were these found?
How were these easter-eggs found? Where they found by chance, or were their locations extracted from the game files? I am asking because when it's the latter, it would be pointless to keep looking for more. --Crush (talk) 08:19, 20 February 2013 (CST)
- Most of them were found by chance, by viewing the planet at a particularly low orbit, or through the use of a community-developed plugin that detects objects and terrain surface features as you pass over, such as some of the mapping kit expansion plugins, and I'm sure one or two people have found them in the game files. On the subject, I think it might be a good idea for someone to post maps of the locations for these Easter eggs. However it should be on a different page, as some people might not want that big a spoiler. --Ruedii (talk) 12:09, 10 May 2013 (CDT)
- I think a gallery would be interesting for this page. As with the spoilers, just the image of the item, but not the exact location. On the other hand, a player that goes to a page titled easter eggs - probably wants the location. That's like saying there are cheat codes, but not saying what they are. What do they mean?
Can these easter eggs get either a reference location, or a description of what/where they are? Like what do the craters mean on Moho? What is the 'magic boulder' on Ike? Where can I find Carl Sagan's face? --Relick (talk) 03:41, 16 March 2013 (CDT)
Easter egg = terrain glitch?
I've noticed a few edits about the "Moholes" on Moho and whether they are actually easter eggs or just a terrain glitch. I think that they are simply a mishap in the terrain (because of the very "pixely" edges) and the "forces" are a bug in the physics engine. Also it isn't quite clear what an "easter egg" is in terms of KSP. I think that the term should be defined a bit clearer somewhere in the article. --Dgelessus (talk) 10:25, 10 May 2013 (CDT)
- The "Forces" are probably a bug in the way gravity is handled by the terrain engine. However, I suspect they were intentionally placed there. The square edges are due to the way terrain height is handled in KSP. It has nothing to do with them being accidental. You will notice several ridges on Minmus also have jagged edges.--Ruedii (talk) 05:32, 5 July 2013 (CDT)
Spirit's or Curiosity's camera?
Okay this was changed multiple times between Spirit and Curiosity. Now is there any proof of which rover it is actually (and if I'm not mistaken it could be even Opportunity because it is build like Spirit), like a developers comment or because of the physical properties. I haven't been there but Scott Manley and I can't see any sign why it is Spirit or Curiosity. — xZise [talk] 15:34, 4 July 2013 (CDT)

The camera on Duna: http://i.imgur.com/NMazQkx.png
It's clearly meant to be Curiosity. --Crush (talk) 03:23, 5 July 2013 (CDT)
- I'd be inclined to agree. It has a large main lens with two smaller square lenses of different sizes in a binocular arrangement. This is clearly the Curiosity camera.:p.s. Thanks for bringing it to the discussions page when an edit war was brewing. It shows maturity and reason. --Ruedii (talk) 05:37, 5 July 2013 (CDT)
- Okay I take only a brief look on Spirit's camera and there it looks like the curiosity. But your file on the Wikipedia make it pretty clear. Thanks for the edit, although I though it would be Spirit's camera, because it is most likely also buried in sand by now. Why aren't any images on this page, it would be easier to compare the easter egg. — xZise [talk] 06:02, 5 July 2013 (CDT)
Gilly's "Easter Egg" Simply a Terrain Bug?
I recently landed at Gilly's "easter egg" (0 degrees north, 0 degrees east). All I saw was a standard "spine" formation of spikey hills. I must ask, how is this an easter egg? The geological feature of spikey hills can be found all around the Kerbol system. With the "easter egg" sitting in between two large craters, it looks more like a terrain bug than an intentional easter egg. Spoiler, just in case.
Color doesn't really match #BADA55
Hi, I tried to add evidential images, but it doesn't really look BADA55 to me. Are there better images with other lights? — xZise [talk] 12:05, 19 January 2014 (CST)
- Best would be to compare with the textures, if it's possible to extract them somehow. (Probably breaking KSP's ToS to distribute on this wiki however). Artorp (talk) 19:39, 19 January 2014 (CST)
- The evidence you're looking for is called kerbal_armHands.tex archived within sharedassets0.assets in the KSP_Data folder. It is the skin texture used on kerbals. I extracted it, converted it and blurred the image to get a solid color, then put the color #BADA55 besides it. Kerbals use the color R:203, G:219, B:129; #BADA55 is R:186, G:218, B:85. They are different colors. Artorp (talk) 20:16, 19 January 2014 (CST)
- Thank you for your “investigation” :) Interestingly the BADA55 of my image looks “greener“ than your comparison in Firefox but as soon as I'm open them in GIMP they look identical. Strange. — xZise [talk] 06:03, 20 January 2014 (CST)
- Glad to help! :) Sounds like an effect of color correction in Firefox, I use ff myself and don't see any difference however the corrections may vary between color different profiles. The color in your picture has slightly less red (b3db54 as apposed to bada55) which may exaggerate the effect. Not sure though, I'm no graphics designer. Artorp (talk) 09:01, 20 January 2014 (CST)

Okay somebody changed it to #84D455 which looks like Kerbal colored, but different than the color defined in the comparison image (#84D455 vs 203,219,129). It would be nice to know how the new value was determined. — xZise [talk] 04:52, 27 February 2014 (CST)
- Yeah the suggested color doesn't seem to match the Kerbal's skin color at all. If anything #bada55 had a stronger match. I suggest a revert unless a source is provided. --Artorp (talk) 16:43, 1 March 2014 (CST)
