Pilot is a specialization assigned to Kerbonauts. Pilots can provide SAS assistance to a craft, with additional Direction selector options added as Experience increases. Pilots also have the unique ability to plan maneuver nodes even when there is no direct connection to Kerbin, making them essential for far away missions with no connection signal. Notable pilots include Jebediah Kerman and Valentina Kerman.
Pilots are the only specialized kerbals to have a personal parachute without having to level up first.
Although SAS axis lock being a pilot-specific trait, playing with the Kerbal experience setting off grants SAS and all direction selectors to every kerbal.
Since 1.11.1, a bug allows any kerbal with any level to have all SAS direction selectors, unless you play just career with the Making History expansion.[1] 1.12.2 fixed this.
