Start is the first node in the technology tree, and the only stage 1 node on the tree. It is the node the player starts with, and includes seven basic parts, most of which are essential to play the game. This node doesn't need to be developed.
Available Research
There is only one tech node that directly require this one:
Parts
- Command Pod Mk1
- LV-T30 Liquid Fuel Engine
- RT-10 Solid Fuel Booster
- FL-T200 Fuel Tank
- Modular Girder Segment
- Communotron 16
- Mk16 Parachute
The Mk1 Command Pod is the only essential part required to start the game. This is because the second tech tree node, Basic Rocketry, only costs 5 Science, and that can easily be supplied by making Crew Reports, EVA Reports and collect Surface Samples from within the Kerbal Space Center. However, if the player wants to gain more science, using these starter parts, and explosive decoupling, the player can make an orbital or sub-orbital rocket and gain more science from space, using the Communotron 16 to transmit excess data.
