A nose cone is usually used to reduce drag by rounding the top of a rocket part making it easier for air to flow around it. Placing one on the flat top of rocket will decrease atmospheric drag. For example, a RT-10 rocket booster launched by itself with an Aerodynamic Nose Cone will reach a height of 10500m, whereas with no nose cone at all, it would only reach a height of 8100m.
