This page lists many abbreviations, acronyms and initialisms that are used frequently to communicate more quickly, but can confuse new players or players who are not familiar with them.

- Advanced Grabbing Unit
- Ap
- Apoapsis, highest point in an orbit.
- B9
- B9 Aerospace addon
- CM
- Command Module, a transfer ship that delivers a Lander Module to orbit around some body, then waits there and takes it completely or only the crew home again. Not to be confused with command modules.
- CoL, COL
- Center of Lift
- CoM, COM
- Center of Mass
- CoT, COT
- Center of Thrust
- DRE
- Deadly ReEntry - an addon, simulates the atmospheric entry heat effects.
- dV, Δv
- Delta-V, a measure of the ship's propulsive energy.
- FAR
- Ferram Aerospace Research - an addon, gives realistic aerodynamics.
- GUI
- Graphical User Interface
- HKO
- High Kerbin Orbit
- HSC
- Hitchhiker Storage Container - The a PPD-10 Hitchhiker Storage Container
- ISP, Isp, Isp
- Specific impulse, more accurately Isp but that's hard to do on the forum. A value where the higher one is more fuel efficient.
- KAS
- Kerbal Attachment System - an addon, gives a kind of attachment system, wraps and containers...
- KER
- Kerbal Engineer Redux - a diagnostic addon
- KIDS
- Kerbal Isp Difficulty Scaler - addon for more realistic Isp.
- KMP
- Kerbal MultiPlayer - Multiplayer addon.
- KSP
- Kerbal Space Program!
- KSC
- Kerbal Space Center
- LES
- Launch Escape System
- LFB
- Liquid Fuel Booster - like the LFB KR-1x2.
- LKO
- Low Kerbin Orbit
- LM
- Lander Module, paired with a Command Module and which lands on the body.
- LMC
- Left-Mouse-Click
- NEAR
- Neophyte's Elementary Aerodynamics Replacement, an addon gives more realistic aerodynamics model, a simpler version of FAR.
- Pe
- Periapsis, lowest point in an orbit.
- RCS
- Reaction Control System
- RSS
- Real Solar System - an addon with solar system of our size...
- RTG
- Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator
- RUD
- Rapid, Unplanned Disassembly. Usually happens when there are not enough struts or it collides with something. See also catastrophic failure.
- SoI
- Sphere of influence, which are the frames of reference. The trajectory in the current sphere of influence is shown blue on the map view.

- Sub-Assembly (in VAB/SPH)
- SAS
- Stability Augmentation System or (jokingly) Sickness Avoidance System
- SMA
- Semi-Mayor Axis
- SPH
- Space Plane Hangar
- SRB
- Solid Rocket Booster

- Single-stage-to-orbit
- TSTO
