The EM-16 Light Duty Rotor is one of the two smallest size rotational electric motor, along with its variant, the EM-16S Light Duty Rotor. A rotor differ from a rotation servo in that a rotor will attempt to reach and maintain a rotation rate within the limits of the "torque" that it can provide, while a rotation servo will attempt to reach and maintain an angular position within the limits of "torque" and "traverse rate" (which is homogeneous to its maximal rotational speed) that it can provide.

Electric rotor parts can reach rates of up to 460 rotations per minute. The nominal (maximum) value can be tweaked in the part menu. Electric consumption will depend on the rotor torque sizing and limit, regardless of the actual torque requirement to maintain the set rotation rate. A rotor with insufficient torque setting will not reach its set rate of rotation. A rotor with excessive torque setting will consume more electricity than strictly necessary.

Electric rotor parts are most suited to provide a constant rotation rate to propellers for aircrafts traveling inside atmospheres, for an improvised wheel that rolls on a surface (although self-contained rover wheel parts exist in the game) or for creating specific contraptions such as an artificial gravity centrifuge ring in crewed orbital stations and interplanetary vessels.
