Revision as of 12:46, 12 November 2014
There are numerous anomalous formations on the surfaces of bodies in the Kerbol System. Some remain undiscovered as of today.
If you've stumbled here accidentally and don't want to spoil the thrill of exploration and discovery for yourself,
this excessively large text block will do its best to keep you from glancing below before you remember where the "back" button in your browser is, or a keyboard combination like ⎇ Alt+← if you're fancy.
Seriously, these contain quite detailed descriptions of the easter eggs.
There are even pictures of some of them.
There are even coordinates for them.
So if you want to see them first when you find them yourself, go back now!
I really mean it, don't tell me you weren't warned.
If you aren't interested in spoilers there are other things you could do.
Maybe you'd like to go to the Main Page instead of continuing to read this well-intended textual clutter.
Maybe you just like reading too much. Maybe you should be playing KSP instead.
Maybe you should go buy it if you haven't already.
Maybe you should buy it for someone else who loves science, indie games or Mexican innovation.
I don't know;
I'm just a rapidly waning text block.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Kerbol
- None known
Moho
- There is a large, steep vertical "tunnel" that could be considered an easter egg, and anomalous forces are present around the rim of the tunnel, which is at Moho's north pole. Also known as the Mohole.
Eve
- None known
Gilly
- 0 degrees, 0 degrees, there is a perfect square pyramid.
Kerbin
- Five Monoliths: one visible from KSC, one by the tracking station at the Inland Kerbal Space Center (20° 40′ 15″ N 146° 29′ 48″ W), one at 35° 34′ 13″ N 74° 58′ 38″ W, one at 0° 38′ 25″ S 80° 46′ 0″ W, and one at 28° 48′ 30″ S 13° 26′ 24″ W
- Memorial to the Mk1 Command Pod outside the VAB, and is destructible.
- A temple in the desert (6° 30′ 20″ S 142° 41′ 8″ W)
- A crashed flying saucer on northern ice cap (81° 57′ 18″ N 128° 30′ 50″ W)
- The Old Airfield (1° 31′ 43″ S 71° 54′ 8″ E) has a hangar containing old versions of these parts: a Command Pod Mk1 (but scorched and oversized), an FL-T400 Fuel Tank and an LV-T45 Liquid Fuel Engine.
- At the exact north pole, there is perfect square pyramid which flips Kerbals randomly. This is not really an easter egg, but is a product of glitches in terrain mapping.
- The giant flagpole at KSC can be climbed by Kerbals.
- When the Astronaut Complex is destroyed, a toilet is visible in the rubble.
- In the ocean just south of the KSC, about midway between land and the southern ice cap (about 30° 0′ 0″ S 80° 0′ 0″ W), engraved into the ocean floor is a giant smiley face, best seen from orbit or on a topography map like File:Kerbin heightmap.jpg.
- Strange formations of islands, near the continent which looks like South America.[coordinates missing][dubious]
Mun
- Three Monoliths (or Munoliths) at 9° 49′ 53″ S 25° 55′ 3″ E, 57° 39′ 36″ N 9° 8′ 32″ E and 82° 12′ 22″ S 102° 55′ 43″ E
- Three mun Arches at 12° 27′ 2″ N 39° 11′ 45″ E, 12° 28′ 18″ S 140° 57′ 40″ W and 2° 27′ 47″ N 81° 31′ 51″ E
- Neil Armstrong Memorial (0° 42′ 6″ N 22° 44′ 45″ E)
- Crashed Flying Saucer
Minmus
- One monolith (23° 46′ 37″ N 60° 2′ 45″ E)
- Broken terrain on north and south pole.
Duna
- Giant Kerbal face (17° 3′ 25″ N 85° 27′ 31″ W)
- The camera which looks like that of the Curiosity rover, buried in the soil (visible on only high terrain detail at 30° 20′ 30″ S 28° 48′ 37″ W)
- Hill making SSTV signal (66° 3′ 12″ S 160° 53′ 38″ W but the source of the signal is now several hundred meters beneath hill as of 0.22)
- Broken terrain on north and south poles including pyramid on the north pole.
Ike
- Magic Boulder - There is a monolith on the boulder. Boulder contains strange clipping boundaries that can result in ships exploding seemingly spontaneously. It also seems to glow green as if it is radioactive. It is missing since 0.18, but it used to orbit at an altitude of 15km with an inclination of 80 degrees.
- A pyramid at the north pole similar to the one formerly on Kerbin which flipped kerbals.
- A large dark patch near the equator (13° 34′ 44″ S 26° 45′ 45″ E). The patch is only present when in 'space near' Ike; it is invisible on all map views. Present since at least 0.25.
Dres
- None known
Jool
- None known
Laythe
- None known
Vall
- Stonehenge formation (60° 5′ 10″ S 83° 46′ 48″ E)
Tylo
- Crater with Carl Sagan's face [Gone]
- Cave-like formation (40° 11′ 58″ N 174° 0′ 5″ E) Ironically enough, the cave is hundreds of metres below the ground (since 0.23)
Bop
Pol
- None known
Eeloo
- None known.
Overall
- While not easter eggs per se, the exact geographical poles of most bodies have highly unusual topography, usually making them inaccessible.
Kerbals
- The color of the Kerbals' skin is close to is #BADA55 ( ) in hexadecimal but does not match it exactly. The hexadecimal RGB value spells like “badass” in leetspeek. Some say #84D455 ( ) is the color of a Kerbal which is even further away than #BADA55. This connection is rumored, because Kerbals can have a BadS flag, which is usually interpreted as badass.
IVA
- Some of the cockpits have post-it notes and other humorous writings inside them. The writing is somewhat blurry on normal settings and hard to read, but still legible. For transcripts of the notes, see the respective part pages.
Parts
- On the Z-100 and Z-400 Rechargable Battery, the logo claims the batteries are Batt Man Batteries. This is a reference to Batman.
- On the Communotron 88-88 is the hexadecimal number 0x62656570. When 0x62656570 is converted to ASCII it spells "beep".
- Also on the Communotron 88-88, is the serial number 04101957, which is the launch date of Sputnik 1, 4 October 1957.
- When the Mystery Goo™ Containment Unit is opened, revealing the holes, if one looks very closely in them, a faint smiley face can be seen.
- When the SC-9001 Science Jr. is open, a message can be seen printed on the rear of the bay reading "Danger! Science Stuff".
- The COSPAR designations and names of both the International Space Station and Mir (in Cyrillic script) are printed on the Mobile Processing Lab MPL-LG-2 hull.
Loading Screen
- While not that much of an Easter Egg instead of a reference, the loading screen makes a reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, stating "Answering Ultimate Question" one of the well known phrases from the book.
Main Menu
- One of the two main menu images is that of a Kerbal standing on the Mun's surface, with Kerbin in the background. There is a 1 in 40 chance that a sand castle made of Mun dust can be seen at his feet.
- There is another main menu image with multiple kerbals, apparently fixing the crashed lander. Note that this is not in the stock game and is in fact added by the toolbar mod.
Scenarios
- During the Space Station One scenario, by zooming out far enough to show the planetary map, a ship by the name of 'Kerbal XX' can be seen orbiting around Duna in a near-equatorial orbit (as of 0.23)
