A three-stage rocket featuring each of the default parts as of 0.8.5

This page lists the rocket parts that are included with the latest paid version of Kerbal Space Program, currently 0.17. These parts are also called vanilla parts, default parts, and stock parts.

For a list of all the parts available in the demo version of Kerbal Space Program, look at the demo parts page.

The game separates parts into seven categories for use within the Space Plane Hanger and the Vehicle Assembly Building, though two of these categories are currently unused. The five that can be selected from are Command Pods, Propulsion, Command & Control, Structural & Aerodynamic and Utility & Scientific.

Units of measure

  • While units of mass and thrust are not specifically labeled in-game, a bit of logic can quickly determine that thrust is measured in kilonewtons (kN) and mass in metric tons (t). For example, if measured in kilograms(kg), a "9 kg" Rockomax X200-16 Fuel Tank on Kerbin, having a surface gravity of 9.81 m/s2, would be roughly the size of a 48 oz coffee tin and only hold about 1.5 L of fuel. If measured in metric tons, a 9 t Rockomax X200-16 Fuel Tank under the same gravity would be about 0.67 m tall and 2 m in diameter, easily capable of holding the advertised 1600 L of fuel. Only a rocket engine with a thrust around 100 kN could have any chance to lift a 9 t fuel tank.
  • Thrust to weight ratio at sea level on Kerbin is calculated by the following equation, which applies only to liquid or solid fuel rocket engines, jet engines use a complicated formula on a vehicle to vehicle basis.
  • Specific impulse at sea level on Kerbin is is calculated by the following equation. To reduce confusion, specific impulse is given in both velocity and time units. Please see the discussion page for further reading on ways of expressing specific impulse.

where:

is the specific impulse measured in seconds.
is the thrust obtained from the engine, in newtons.
is the mass flow rate in kg/s, which is negative the time-rate of change of the vehicle's mass since propellant is being expelled.
is the acceleration at the Kerbin's surface, in m/s² (≈9.807 m/s²).

  2. Consumes liquid fuel only.
  3. The LFB KR-1x2 is a liquid fuel booster -- a combination of a "normal" engine and a fuel tank.
  4. The R.A.P.I.E.R. Engine is a combination of liquid fuel and jet engine. Only the liquid fuel engine properties are shown.
