Usage
The Magnetometer Boom can be extended by clicking "Extend Boom" in the right-click menu. When fully extended, it has a length of approximately 6.1 meters. The "boom" of the Magnetometer Boom can collide with terrain and other parts, and can be used to push or lift a spacecraft. However, the boom can be broken by aero forces, or on collision.
The Magnetometer Boom can be used to collect science while in low or high space. It doesn't work when landed or in atmosphere. If retracted, the boom will automatically extended when collecting data.
When a boom's stored Magnetometer Report is removed (through collecting or transmitting), the boom will automatically retract.
A broken Magnetometer Boom can be repaired by an Engineer on EVA. As of 1.11, the Engineer will need to use one EVA Repair Kit.
Product description
“ | Magnetic fields are all around us. Kerbal scientists know that learning about the magnetic field of a celestial body can yield all sorts of interesting insights into what's going on inside it - but spacecraft also emit magnetic fields, especially when operating their electronics and electromechanical actuators. For some reason engineers just don't want to turn off the entire spacecraft, or build it out of plastic, so the Experimental Engineering group solved the issue by sticking this sensitive magnetometer on an extensible boom. Warning: Warranty on the boom voided if used any place besides the vacuum of space. — Experimental Engineering Group |

Trivia
- Due to the extended boom's hitbox, a downward-facing Magnetometer Boom makes for an excellent lithobraking device.
Changes
- Initial release
