The Large Holding Tank is a 2.5 meter part introduced in version 1.0. It can contain up to 1500 units of ore. It stores ore that has been harvested by a resource harvester. It appears to be inflatable, or made of some kind of fabric-like material.

This part, or its 1.25 meter version, the Small Holding Tank, are essential for craft using a converter, as the tanks store all ore harvested by the drills. Additionally, this tank holds five times as much as its smaller cousin. It is also empty by default in the editor. If desired, it can be filled to the wanted amount inside the editor, via the prompt when right-clicking. Doing this while in the editor can be helpful to determine a craft's delta V after it has been fully loaded.

Usage

Using the previously mentioned systems for mining, using a drill on the surface of an object will collect ore, if there is any ore present. As long as the drill is operational, it will automatically fill the holding tank, as long as it is properly connected to the ship (via docking, direct connection in the editor, or fuel line connection.) When empty, or chosen to be unfilled before launch, or completely empty, it will have a weight of 2.0 tons.

When completely filled with ore, the Large Holding Tank will have a mass of 17 tons, as each unit of ore weighs 10 kg per unit.

As the impact tolerance is relatively low, or average for this tank (compared to other impact tolerances in the game,) special consideration may be needed. It should not be expected to survive re-entry forces, or any landing that is faster than 7 m/s. Ideally, avoid any direct impact with this tank.

When full of ore Large Holding Tanks are unusually prone to snapping off during an impact or even acceleration, especially when they are mounted radially rather than via a attachment node. Connecting the tank via its attachment node to a Docking Port, Radial Attachment Point or even a Cubic Octagonal Strut results in a much more stress resistant joint.
