Inline Advanced Stabilizer/Box

The Inline Advanced Stabilizer is a toggleable module that provides SAS functionality, a sort of autopilot to stabilize and help keep a rocket on course. It contains reaction wheels to provide torque to rotate the craft.

This part currently serves little purpose as it has the same functionality as the Inline Reaction Wheel but is slightly heavier with no advantages over the former. It apparently exists only to preserve backwards compatibility with saved crafts from version .20. It used to have the advantage of providing automated SAS functionality, which is now built-in to all command modules. In other words, if you need extra torque, use an Inline Reaction Wheel and not this part. Also, see this forum post.

Description

The inline reaction wheel system uses a series of spinning disc that are going "Very Fast", to generate the torque necessary to control a spacecraft. Comes complete with a built in flight computer. Please do not attempt to service this device while it is running.
