The EVA Experiments Kit is a cargo item which can be used to obtain science.

Product description

Probodobodyne has meticulously curated and assembled this case full of various devices useful for science experiments.

Despite observations to the contrary, we feel that the inability of our astronauts to find a good use for the collapsible top hat and magic wand is more to do with a lack of creativity... rather than a case of them being left over from prior use.

Usage

The EVA Experiments Kit can stack up to four times in a Kerbal's inventory. However, when wearing an EVA Jetpack, a Kerbal can only carry one kit.

In order to "Perform EVA Science", a Kerbal must be either standing or floating in space; they cannot be swimming, falling, or on a ladder.

There are three different experiments that can be done with an EVA Experiments Kit:

  • If the Kerbal is floating in space, then they will spin a large wingnut; this causes the Kerbal to spin in the opposite direction while the wingnut demonstrates the Dzhanibekov effect. The experiment description implies that the Kerbal disassembled their spaceship to obtain the wingnut.
  • If the Kerbal is standing on specific celestial bodies including Kerbin, Duna, or Mun, they will hit a golf ball with a golf club.
  • If the Kerbal is standing on other specific celestial bodies such as Tylo and Vall, they will use a hammer to shatter what appears to be a frozen banana.

The EVA Experiments Kit is not used up during EVA Science, and can be reused.

Trivia

  • The golf ball experiment is likely a reference to the Apollo 14 lunar mission, where astronaut Alan Shepard brought two golf balls and hit them with a makeshift club.
