This module was previously used for ASAS module functionality, hence it's name. It was never meant to produce any torque, it was only meant to function as a computer unit, a sort of autopilot to keep the ship on course. Since 0.21, it has been changed into a reaction wheel. There are several problems with this, however. The reaction wheel is still totally hollow, so there doesn't seem to be any way for the module to actually generate torque.[''[[Talk:Advanced S.A.S Module, Large#ASAS vs reaction wheel|dubious]]''] The KSPX mod, from which several parts were implemented from 0.19 to 0.20, includes a solid "SAS module, large". Unfortunately, the mod's developer left Squad before the SAS redesign, so her mod could not be implemented.

Before the SAS was redesigned, the “Advanced SAS Module” (now the [[Advanced Inline Stabilizer]]) and the “Advanced SAS Module, Large” both functioned similarly, the only difference being the PID values and dimensions. They still function similarly, however the description seems to indicate that the “Advanced Reaction Wheel Module, Large” works like an old ASAS module instead of a reaction wheel. This may confuse older players who are returning to the game.

Advanced S.A.S Module, Large/Box

The Advanced S.A.S Module, Large is a large diameter reaction wheel meant to provide torque to a craft. Extra torque means that the player's spaceship will rotate faster when ordered to, resulting in a more nimble feel to the craft. The Advanced Reaction Wheel Module, Large is the size 2 reaction wheel. It is expensive, relatively heavy, and provides a very large amount of torque compared to the other reaction wheels.

Product description

After many years of research, STEADLER Corps rocket engineers discovered that large flywheels were necessary to keep large ships under control. The "Advanced Reaction Wheel Module, Large" addresses that issue by its use of patented Large Flywheels™ to provide "More Torque" (patent pending). STEADLER promptly dismissed all criticism concerning the necessity of so much research work, stating that 'it only sounds so simple now that we've figured it out'. Critics remain skeptical, but none can disagree that this module does indeed pack a lot more punch than previous models. It also needs a lot more power, but STEADLER is currently carrying out intense research work on why that is.
