The 2HOT Thermometer displays temperature to 5 significant figures when activated and right-clicked. They are immediately followed by a K, which is assumed to stand for Kelvin. In career mode, it is available with Engineering 101, at level 2 of the technology tree.
Usage
The temperature rises while A; approaching a celestial body hotter than space, B; entering an atmosphere, or C; firing engines. Heat can be reduced through Radiator panels or Thermal control systems . The 2HOT also measures the ambient temperature. This can be used to determine atmosphere teperatures. Sunlight will affect the measured temperature, but not in a consistent manner; being in the shade can cause a thermometer to give lower read-outs, but getting close to Kerbol does not raise the temperature.
While active, the thermometer drains 0.0075 electric charge per second (0.45 ⚡/min, 27 ⚡/hr).
The 2HOT can be used to earn science while distant from a celestial body, and it will continue to tell the temperature. Science can be generated by the 2HOT as long as the craft is within the sphere of influence of the celestial body and works if it is in a vacuum, like the PresMat Barometer.
