The PPD-10 Hitchhiker Storage Container (commonly the Hitchhiker Can, or initialised as HSC ) is a crew container/habitation module that can hold 4 Kerbals. Like the MK2 Crew Cabin and Mk3 Passenger Module, it lacks command module functionality, meaning that another manned command pod, EAS-1 External Command Seat, or a probe core is required to control the vessel to which the PPD-10 is attached.
Usage
The Hitchhiker Storage Container is empty by default but can be filled in the VAB by using the crew tab.
The main uses of storage containers are:
- Crew quarters for space stations
- Crew quarters for large vessels
- Holding rescued Kerbonauts
Product description
“ | The HSC was an invention of necessity - how do we store 4 Kerbals on-orbit without any real provisions for return? Who needed this remains a mystery, as do his motivations. — Jebediah Kerman's Junkyard and Spaceship Parts Co. |
” |
The IVA view of this shows several boxes which apparently hold provisions. They are labeled as FOOD, NOT FOOD, SCIENCE, MORE SCIENCE, TRASH, JUNK, RUBBISH, REFUSE, BOARD GAMES, TOOTHBRUSHES, and LAUNDRY. A clipboard is also in the IVA view showing the YouTube video thumbnail picture of "Neil" [1] and the official image of KSP's second anniversary. This, combined with the fact that it is a "Large" diameter part, means that it will fit well on a space station.
