The Rockomax "Poodle" Liquid Engine, formerly designated LV-909 Liquid Fuel Engine (Large), is a size 2 (2.5 meter diameter) liquid fuel engine. It has a moderate thrust to weight ratio, offset by its relatively short height, high Isp and thrust, and wide gimbal range.
It performs very poorly in atmospheric conditions but excels at vacuum operation. The primary intended role of this engine is for large-diameter, upper stages of rockets for orbital insertions, transfers, and landings. In the past, it had been outperformed by LV-T30 Liquid Fuel Engines and clusters of LV-909 Liquid Fuel Engines, though this is no longer the case. The Poodle will not get you into orbit and once you are there it won't break any speed records, but it will get you from place to place in the cosmos while sipping fuel like a fine gentleman.
One drawback of this engine is that it does not contain an alternator and will not generator electric charge as a by-product, so design your rockets accordingly with additional generators.
Product description
“ | A more reasonable engine for rough economic times, the Poodle engine doubles as a BBQ when at low power. | ” |
Changes
- Specific impulse at sea level increased from 85 to 90.
- cost increased (600 → 1600), mass reduced (2.5 → 2)
- Retextured
- (Part rebalancing) Mass reduced from 4 to 2.5, thrust increased from 135 to 220.
- Initial release (with LV-909 title and description)
